12 days of Christmas...

For those of you following our page on facebook you'll have seen snippets of recent news.

We recently welcomed Andy a regular guest back for a weekend away, and in his first session landed 7 carp out of 12 runs, heading home for Christmas with 16 Carp banked during his short break.

Other guests included new anglers, Pike specialists from Scotland who stayed with us for just one night but netted 8 fish by keeping highly mobile all over the park and fishing dead baits. - Pictures to follow shortly!

Meanwhile I'm home for Christmas and have been enjoying some great sport - plenty of cracking Roach from Lonsdale as always.
In fact feeling nostalgic (and damp from a torrential rain pour) I settled into my old haunt at the boat house with a rather dusty whip pole. Unfortunately I was smashed straight away on my size 18 hook and single red maggot and got to see only a big gold flank before my hook length gave.
This left me with a choice - walk back to my main tackle box at home in the rain, or get creative / lazy with what I had on my person. Fortunately for me I had my fly box in my coat pocket, so with some fly leader for a hooklenth and a gold header buzzer type fly tied in below (barbless of course!) I decided to see what would happen.
The result was plenty of lovely chublets taken on a bare fly fished below my pole float (just gently raising and jigging it) and also on the fly with a blasphemous maggot impaled on it.

As the chublets moved on the big roach moved in and my new chimera method filtered the smaller samples out to leave me with some lovely big silvers!

I've also been out searching for Perch with a barbless spinner - but instead am having tremendous fun catching some bigger chub on an ultra light lure rod - you have to try it!

Autumn Action

During Neil Roberts 2nd visit this year to Lonsdale he and his family had a great time catching plenty of fish, see his catch report below:

As usual we had a great time on our visit; especially Heather as you can see from the pictures below, she started with an 11 1/2lb common followed by 2 nice pike around the 9lb mark, Nathan and I had some catching up to do. All in all it was a great visit and we had some great fish out of the water including a 13lb pike on a tropical fruit boilie.
We are looking forward to our next visit, see you again in the spring

With the weather starting to cool down slightly there has been a feeding frenzy with Steve and Sue Bowne having a great week last week with plenty of pike as well as several carp. The event of the week though had to be whilst Matt and Val were cleaning the cottages at the weekend, a commotion out on the lake caught their eye caused by what must have been a leviathan of a pike dragging a mallard under for his supper.

Last minute bookings now being taken for long weekend breaks including Christmas

Stuck for ideas for Christmas this year why not book a Lonsdale holiday now and get 2014 prices

More Autumn Glory at Lonsdale

Paul Lawrie came to Lonsdale for his 3rd trip this year with his friends Bill and Pat; they had another great stay with plenty of Carp up to 19lbs mostly taken early morning on our Lonsdale frankfurter and snail boilies, but the highlight of the trip for Paul had to be his personal best ghost carp at 18 3/4lbs.

Other carp anglers stoping at the park this week Todd and Chris Platt came to celebrate Chris's 50th birthday (having previously celebrated his 40th birthday at Lonsdale), both had plenty of carp plus a bonus 5lb 3oz tench; but the most remarkable catch considering the time of year was taken by Chris's dad Todd when he landed 2 pristine grass carp within 5 minutes of each other taken on the Lonsdale tropical fruit freezer boilies.

Supply and Demand

We're currently awaiting a catch report and photos from a guest to submit to Clint over at Carp Talk, but as with all things in the press you're working to a deadline!
So with high demand, Matt found it only too easy to supply for us in the meantime he fished for about two and half hours over dusk last night and just before breakfast this morning and had seven fish upto about 20lb (we weighed the pictured night time beauty at 17lb last night, but not the bigger ones this morning):

Meanwhile guests Bill, Paul and the boys have started their holiday off with a 20, a 15, a 13 1/2 and several smaller fish last night alone! They're fishing with more modern gear than Matt along the bank of Lonsdale opposite the cottages.
We had our first light frost last week and it's really helped show the Gold Scales as well as the Gold leaves of Autumn!

To book a week or a short break with us simply use our website linked below, give us a ring on 07770825896 or email us at lonspark@aol.com
and we'll 'hook' you up!

Roy & Gina's Break

What a break!
I stupidly broke my ankle 3 weeks before we were due to start our 16th consecutive fortnight in June at Lonsdale Park and after much deliberation we decided to cancel.  We were almost as upset about this as having to break the news to fellow Lonsdale Park veterans Colin & Wendy, as we’d arranged to meet up again this year.  We’d been getting reports from Colin & Wendy of how well it was fishing in our absence.

Paul & Val very kindly re-accommodated us for two weeks commencing 13/9/2014 instead.  At last, September arrived & we set off for a fortnight of relaxation by the lakes on the tranquil Lonsdale Park estate to catch fish and enjoy the wildlife; Gina saw a Kingfisher flying around Lonsdale Lake, which was a real treat as she’d never seen one before, she was lucky enough to see it twice more while we were there.  As pleasure anglers we only fish during the day and started late most days as we kept lying in!  The fishing seemed to be as good as it is in June even if though it was a bit harder to get the Roach going, but it was nice to catch a few Gudgeon.

Here is a selection of Gina’s fish.  All but the 12lber were all caught close using a light feeder rod & reel with 6lb line with a small method feeder filled with method mix & 6mm banded pellet on size 16 hook.  She had a few hours on my carp rod and just as Paul arrived in his Land Rover for a chat the buzzer went and she was on it in a flash.

Keiran's Catch Up

Hi Paul

Thanks for a great week, here is the catch report as promised

Name Keiran Gillam
Number of nights fishing 6
Number of fish caught - 43, common, mirror and ghost carp, including 20lb 11 0z, 18lb 12oz, 15lb 13oz, 14 x 10 - 15 lb and 26 x 7-10lb for a total wieght of 431lb

I fished 2 rods from the private peg at lakeside cottage 2

The left hand rod was positioned 5 yards short of the aerator in front of the cottage and was baited with 18mm Lonsdale baits Peach and black pepper boilie

the right hand rod was positioned 5 yards past and 5 yards to the left of the aerator and was baited with 18mm Lonsdale baits frankfurter and snail boilie

the baiting situation was the same for both a whole boilie fished over the top of a handfull of half boilies, handfull of pellet and a couple of small balls of method mix. a scattering of 5-10 boilies was then catapulted into the area to get the carp grubbing around. rather than trying to hold fish in the area with a large bed of bait, I was trying for the 1 bite at a time with small parcels of attraction.

After the first 24 hours I had had 4 carp to 11lb, this by any standards was good, but considering the number of fish I could see showing in the area, I felt I should be picking up more, I spent the next 24 hours keeping the same hookbaits but experimenting with different colour tippers the code was unlocked Monday morning. I tipped the Peach and black pepper with half a 10mm white pop up and the Frankfurter and snail with a piece of pink corn. I had 10 carp to 14lb 11 by the early hours of Tuesday morning. With a couple of occasions the bait being picked up before I had put the rod back on the rest.

bite times seemed to come in distinct phases,
7-9am
3-7pm
10-12pm
2-4am

however the odd fish could be winkled out during the day by simply renewing the hookbait and adding a handful of pellets.

It paid as is always written about, to not sit idle and think about your options, the fish are clearly there to be caught but do like things presented their way!!!

a very tiring but immensely pleasurable weeks fishing. Naturally I (we) will be back

thanks again Paul and family

regards

Keiran, Susan, Bernard and barbara

Kieran's Catches

This week Kieran & family are enjoying a stay in cottage 2.

Fishing his private peg as of this morning Kieran has had 43 carp up to 22lbs.

Photos to follow.

Mitchell catches more

Peter Mitchell, Dad Charlie, brother Charlie & friend Terry Churchill have been visiting Lonsdale for the past 6 years.

Charlie & Charlie fished on their private peg outside the cottage targeting catching quality roach & tench + a bonus18lb common.

Pete & terry the serious Carp anglers bivvied up on the back of Lonsdale Lake.

Peter's final tally was 75 carp the biggest being 24lb 5ozs. Average weight of around 16lb so had a approx 1,200lbs.

Terry's final total was 35 carp, up to 18lb 8ozs, mnaking a total of circa 1700lbs.

His claim to fame that was on one of his night sessions (he didn't do as many as Pete) he landed 3 ghost carp one after the other the largest being his 18lb 8oz fish.

Peterput the time in, nearly every night in his bivvy, resulting in his superb catch.

Feeding patterns were 2-4 a.m the first week but as the temperature dropped a little this changed to 6-7p.m.

All fish were caught on either Lonsdale's Peach & Black Pepper or Nutty Nut Boilies.

Pete's rig was a straightforward running carp rig with critically balanced baits.

                                     Thanks for the photos guys.

The McIlwaine Faminly Catch -up.

Following on from the previous photos, thanks to you guys for sending over these extra photos & write up.
It certainly seems your 2 week stay was another good one with 196 carp – over 2,300lbs of fish!

A pattern soon emerged over the 2 weeks, with bites being most productive late evening through to the early hours of the morning as it was just too warm throughout the main part of the day with the carp much more interested in sunbathing than feeding.
However we did manage to tempt a few of the top, often with in a few feet of the bank, it really is the most exciting and rewarding, but at the same time most frustrating way of catching carp, regardless of size.

We managed to bank 196 carp between us ranging from high singles to just over 17lb with the first week producing slightly more fish. The Lonsdale tropical fruit, and the new nut mix which we really liked were the 2 baits producing the goods for us fished over the top of the new krill pellet and particle range, all of which get the thumbs up from us and come highly recommended.

Ryan was gutted when he hooked and lost a huge common at the net, Arran was then on a mission to get the better of his brother but sadly it did not happen – so it’s on the hit list for the next visit!

As always we had a thoroughly enjoyable time, with my own personal highlight being catching my first ever grass carp an ambition I have been trying to fulfil for some time, and I finally achieved my goal on my last night with a fine specimen of 14.6lb.
Thanks again for another great stay, looking forward to seeing you in the New Year,

Michael, Aaron and Ryan Mcilwaine.
