Keiran's Catch Up

Hi Paul

Thanks for a great week, here is the catch report as promised

Name Keiran Gillam
Number of nights fishing 6
Number of fish caught - 43, common, mirror and ghost carp, including 20lb 11 0z, 18lb 12oz, 15lb 13oz, 14 x 10 - 15 lb and 26 x 7-10lb for a total wieght of 431lb

I fished 2 rods from the private peg at lakeside cottage 2

The left hand rod was positioned 5 yards short of the aerator in front of the cottage and was baited with 18mm Lonsdale baits Peach and black pepper boilie

the right hand rod was positioned 5 yards past and 5 yards to the left of the aerator and was baited with 18mm Lonsdale baits frankfurter and snail boilie

the baiting situation was the same for both a whole boilie fished over the top of a handfull of half boilies, handfull of pellet and a couple of small balls of method mix. a scattering of 5-10 boilies was then catapulted into the area to get the carp grubbing around. rather than trying to hold fish in the area with a large bed of bait, I was trying for the 1 bite at a time with small parcels of attraction.

After the first 24 hours I had had 4 carp to 11lb, this by any standards was good, but considering the number of fish I could see showing in the area, I felt I should be picking up more, I spent the next 24 hours keeping the same hookbaits but experimenting with different colour tippers the code was unlocked Monday morning. I tipped the Peach and black pepper with half a 10mm white pop up and the Frankfurter and snail with a piece of pink corn. I had 10 carp to 14lb 11 by the early hours of Tuesday morning. With a couple of occasions the bait being picked up before I had put the rod back on the rest.

bite times seemed to come in distinct phases,
7-9am
3-7pm
10-12pm
2-4am

however the odd fish could be winkled out during the day by simply renewing the hookbait and adding a handful of pellets.

It paid as is always written about, to not sit idle and think about your options, the fish are clearly there to be caught but do like things presented their way!!!

a very tiring but immensely pleasurable weeks fishing. Naturally I (we) will be back

thanks again Paul and family

regards

Keiran, Susan, Bernard and barbara
