Some lovely photo's from Trevor and Sheila

Trevor and Sheila dropped us a line this week after their recent stay with us to a share a few photo's.
"Consistently good fishing all week, with some early morning tench every day (up to 6lb) and regular carp."
It's always nice to know guests have enjoyed themselves, and as the pair have holidayed each year have seen me grow up from being about 8 years old (now 23) we must be doing something right!

Thankyou for the lovely email and photo's - we'll see you again soon!

A Note from Neil Roberts and Family

Hi Paul,Val and Emma
Just to let you know, Heather eventually did catch that carp she was after, a 5lb common on Deer lake on a pole(great fun to do).
Thanks for the tip to fish the Arches lake, Nathan and I caught some lovely Tench, 4 each average 4-5lb and a beautiful Roach weighing exactly 2lb, well over 50lb of fish in total.
We all had a great week again and considering the weather some good fishing too.
Even Steph had a good time just relaxing.
Congratulations Emma on your graduation !!
See you all again in October.
Thanks again
Neil. Nathan, Heather and Stephanie.

Thanks for the email and the photo's guys (and well done Heather!)
We're looking forwards to seeing you again soon!

PS Quite taken by your camo buffs! Might have to find one in time for autumn...

Are you making the most of the weather?

Well it's been a glorious week.
26 degrees average upto about 28 at the warmest! We're all sporting rather impressive tan lines.

The carp have certainly enjoyed the sun, and are keenly feeding off the top, or sunbathing like this ghostie ~ 15lb.

Anglers have faced challenges when the fish in Reed and Arches spawned, but despite this several specimen Tench were banked from the Arches.
Fortunately just before they spawned we were in with our annual tidy up of both to draw back the edges of the reeds and have all swims easily fishable.

Things are looking good for the next couple of weeks for those pools now as the fish will be coming onto feed ravenously after their amorous exertions!
Meanwhile Lonsdale's population steadily graced the banks with a 9lb 3oz Tench, and plenty of Carp in the high teens topped by at least 4 to different anglers upto 24lb that I know about!
Several anglers tempted them with a stealthy floating breadcrust - which I think is about one of the best ways to catch a Carp!

The Roach fishing kept everyone pleased one angler told me "Today, you could have entered me into any match you like, and if I could have entered what I caught here today I'd have walked away with first everytime" - another happy angler!

Anglers have been treated to the delights of spring and summer together this week, with all our wildlife beginning to emerge with it's offspring. Most notice-ably our resident Tawny Owls have decided this year to show off, and raise their two owlets on the edges of Deer lake to the delight of the guests.
Mother owl has been encouraging them to fly first from branch to branch, then tree to tree, and now she's trying to tempt them on the flight over the water to the far bank.
Watching them is a great privelidge for me and our guests, and it's all the moments like these that demonstrate the magic that permeates the park.
Or as Colin (angler and guest) put it: "Treecreeper on the tree next to me, Buzzard overhead, Tawny and her babies alongside, Tench and Carp on the hook, died and gone to heaven!"

We've got some vacancy this week and next, so if you fancy a little slice of heaven in the sun, at some seriously knocked down prices, give us a call for a chat:
Paul on 07770 825 896
or the home number on 01228 562655
alternatively you can email us at lonspark@aol.com

 Common above ~ 20lb

Now for some pictures Shared with us via our Facebook page of the last couple of weeks (for those of you not on 'the book')

Thanks for sharing guys!

We love to see your pictures, so when we find them on our facebook page or in the email inbox, they really make us smile.
Thanks! Emma and Paul

Catch report week beginning 21st April

Last week saw plenty of action despite it turning cooler from Wednesday.

David Denny enjoyed roach to 1lb 3/4oz and tench to 5lb, and was reluctant to leave us today, so made arrangements to stay to fish until 4pm. (Unfortunately no we cannot allow this during our main season as we'd be inundated with anglers who never leave!)

John Wilkinson and his son-in law Andy had their usual friendly competition between themselves, John took an early lead with a 15lb common, but was pipped to the post by Andy who landed a 17lber on Thursday. Well done Andy! We'll see you for the match in October (I'm sure John will come out reels blazing)

We also hosted Darren, who visited us all the way from his fish farm in Thailand. Darren landed his personal best Carp with us this week using our new baits (more on that in a minute) which was a little over 17lb. Congratulations Darren, we're sure you'll better that on your next trip!

Our followers on twitter and facebook will already know about the new bait we have this year:

We've teamed up with a top bait manufacturer to formulate our own range of baits. Basically this means that we're able to offer high quality, rapid break down, low cost baits that are specifically tailored to our waters. We've called them 'Lonsdale's Secret Recipe'.
We have:

  • 15mm boilies in Crab and Mussel, White Chocolate and King Blood worm,
  • Brown and White Breadcrumb
  • PVA friendly particles - Chilli hemp and chick pea, Red and White Maize or Mixed particles
  • 3mm and 4.5mm Marine Halibut Carp Pellets

We've also got our bait pre-order servcice sorted, so if you head over to the homepage and them to the facilities or downloads page you'll now find order forms you can use to post or telephone your order, or email.
The email system uses an excel spreadsheet that should automatically work out the cost of your order for you when you change the quanity from 0 (it will also give you subtotals along the way to help you keep an eye on where you want to send your money).
These forms are also helpful for anglers to see just a bit of what we keep regularly in stock and recommend before they get here (and assure new visitors that our site tackle shop is very competatively priced!)

Tinka tinka!

As Dad predicted the fish are loving Cotswolds Baits (as are anglers who are getting £33 worth of bait in a bucket costing just £22),
and with the lovely early summer mornings and just a little nip of frost in the nights the Tench are really starting to show.
Wandering around for a first chat with folks this week Dad lost track of exactly who caught what, but he can report that the overall stamp of fish seemed around the 6lb + mark and it looks good for the week ahead!

Meanwhile we've been busy at work on structural park jobs over the weekend with lots of things from strimming back the lane up through the park, to remedying the odd hole in a peg, to removing the old play tower close to the lodges.

We have some last minute and short break availability for this week and next, so if fancy pursuing a Tinka yourself give us a ring on

or 01228 562655

Lightowler vs Brown Year 9

Lonsdale 2011
The Lightowler and the Brown families were set to do battle again, for the 9th year running. It was to be the best year to date.
This year saw personal bests for the Lightowlers, especially Mike who cleaned up!
The same as every year we bought the trophies and made the t-shirts ready for the weeks fishing. We set out our bivvys and started to bait up! As ever Steve did what he had to do and slept until 10am most mornings. Like others years this seemed to pay off, as on the second day he caught a 14lb 6oz carp and then following up with a few tench. In the afternoon Steve caught another carp to conclude a great days fishing!
After the biggest fish of the week so far Steve was on a high and felt he had the trophy sown up......this was not the case as Adam brown (only down until the Wednesday) caught a great looking 17lb 7oz carp to take the lead. Steve brown and Bob Lightowler quietly going about their fishing with a few small fish but still nothing challenged Adams fish.......this was to stay like this until the Wednesday night when Steve lightowler stormed into the lead with a huge 19lb 8oz carp and this had surely sown up the trophy?
The week was pressing on and the fishing was great, we had all caught a lot of fish no more so than Mike lightowler who had at least 4 big fish a day ranging from his big chub up to the endless amounts of carp that seemed to be well into his baits!
The week was drawing to a close and the weather was getting warmer, the fish still kept coming and then the last day arrived and none of us wanted to leave. The fishing was good and the weather and company too! We all made a decision to stop fishing at 10:30pm on the Friday and do our final tally up, it was at around 8:55pm that mike had a huge run on his carp rod and after a decent fight and a big grin on his face we weighed in the beast at a very solid 20lb 11oz carp and the biggest fish of the week was stolen from Steve, well what a year!
Bob finished the week on a high. Within the last hour of the week he netted two large carp, 19lb the first and a stunning 14.7lb wild carp, the first one we have ever seen!! There was also a later entry from Steve brown with yet another 19lb fish.
The fishing and company was great the excitement of what might have been was in the camp so we have booked again to make it a nice round 10 years so we will all see you soon enough to do it all again!!

Hi All,

hope all is well and the fish are still biting!

I have attatched (hopefully) a catch report and photos of the fish that we caught whilst with you last week, we had a great week and the fishing as ever was excellent!

we will be watching the blog to see who you make famous!

thanks so much
looking forward to next year already!

Jim Andrew Strikes again!!

Well Jim went home early hours of Saturday & we were told by a new arrical that afternoon thet he had already beeen on the radio chatting to Keith Arthur about his catches & received this email from Jim today. Thanks for sending it over Jim.

hello paul,

i'd like to thank you and
your team for a great time on my last two trips.
the roach fishing was out of this world with 11 roach
over 2lb to a pb of 2lb 9oz plus a pb tench of 6lb 13oz
it doesn't get much better. i lost count of the 1lb+ roach
i caught, some of which were just under the 2lb mark
and in mint condition. having fished for roach at
other fisheries ,( noted for their roach)
the roach at lonsdale knock them both into a cocked hat. needless to say
my future roaching will be done at your beautiful fishery.
look forward to my next trip.
p.s. a special mention for julian and his great breakfasts. thanks mate!!
see you soon,
jim.

From Andy and Linda

Two of our recent guests Andy and Linda enjoyed themselves so much they arranged to stay an extra night. Here's what they sent us when they got home:

"Hi Paul and Val
Just wanted to say thanks for a great week and for the extra day. We had a lovely week despite the weather and managed to catch lots of fish.
I beat my personal best with a 7lb tench and we also netted a few nice carp however the highlight was the Friday night when I netted 20 roach in
a row all over a pound and a half plus a lovely 2lb roach.
We stayed the extra night and I caught the same again plus a lovely 2lb 8oz roach.......what a week!!!!
Andy also reeled in a 5lb eel on his carp rod which was a trauma in itself LOL
Looking forward to coming back again in October will let you know the date
Thanks again
Love
Linda and Andy xx"

We're glad you enjoyed yourselves and we'll see you soon!
